QLD Club Challenge – May

This weekend saw most of our weightlifters coming together to lift for the QLD Club Challenge. The Club Challenge is hosted by the Queensland Weightlifting Association and sponsored by Physique Science (Our friend Amie from Target Nutrition!) In this event all the weightlifting clubs in QLD can lift at their home gyms and gain overall points for their club. There are three events throughout the year and after the third event the top three clubs with the best combined score from the events win cash prizes!

We also use these events as an opportunity to develop our youth athletes, new athletes and technical officials. This weekend saw 6 new STWC lifters out on the platform! In the ladies division we had our littlest lifter Karamea (pictured above) from the youth group and highschool lifter Bridie. In the mens division we had both Manning and Zak lifting from the youth group and new senior lifters Ethan and Kym. They all lifted really well and had a great introduction to weightlifting competition.

For our seasoned lifters (Cassie, Liliana, Sandie, Boston, Codie, James and Luke) we saw PB’s from everyone! These guys have been training consistently and their hard work and dedication is paying off. It’s also been great to have Ella back hitting the same numbers as before the swimming season break.

Kym and Ethan also completed the referee course, with Ethan refereeing his first session and Kym learning the time keeping duties. We also saw Carley back in the referee seat, and Kelly refereeing her third club event. Shout out to loaders Codie, Boston, Kaleb and Jacob!

The next couple of months will see some big events for our lifters. These include Sandie competing at the Commonwealth and Oceania Masters Championships in June and the QLD Youth & U15 Championships for some of our youth lifters in July followed by Nationals in August. 🏋️
