My name is Cameron and for the past 20+ years I have been working closely with seniors (sorry I know no one wants to be called that.) I want to give my horn a toot and tell you a little about my experience.
My first introduction was in second year of university where we had to do an experiment and through that we had participants over a certain age do weight training and compare to younger people. The participants enjoyed it and it was successful enough that it continued for a long time. While still in Rockhampton in that time period I worked with an over 60s organisation for group training in a hall and almost drowned some people with maybe too high an intensity aqua aerobics sessions. The oldies complained that my 50s rock an roll music was too heavy too.
I have worked closely with physiotherapists in regaining function and improving activities of daily living. Also at Tin Can Bay I ran group training at the physio gym and at the community centre and also for the Gympie RSL branch. I ran two different class types so that all levels were catered for, from a circuit/crossfit style class for some hardcore ladies who put people half their age to shame.
While offering a more accessible, more gentle functional movement class with exercises based around chairs. Both totally different but equally important for the participants. What ever their goals, the main thing was having fun and not taking yourself too serious.
I have done home visits and worked one on one with clients to maintain health and give them a friendly face that isn’t a family member. We have worked along side other health professionals and returned function after surgeries and rehab after falls.
Working closely with families has been special and having been there through some very tough times has been hard but I am proud to have worked with everyone I have met and made some true friends.
Why am I telling you this? I am always looking for new clients and I really enjoy this demographic.
I have the knowledge and experience to work with special populations and firmly believe that I can make a difference not only physically but mentally.
I am still offering home visits in the Gympie region but I also have a nice quiet private studio that my older clients love. It has all the gym equipment needed to get you moving.
I always encourage partners to come along and train at the same time for no extra cost. It makes it more fun and as the says goes, those of train together, stay together.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
