As I am coming up to 42 years I am proud to say my current training protocols has kept me in a great well rounded and pain free state than any other period in my life.
Mental –
“I exercise because I like to and I am grateful to be able to afford the time to spend training.” That is my first step and I tell myself something similar to this every day. I have spent years grinding through injuries and ego to make myself train. Those days are gone, I have changed my outlook on daily training and now remind myself daily that exercise is fun and be grateful as others cannot participate. Also I dont beat myself up if I want to miss a day, I am an adult.
Eating –
Consistency is key. I am simple, I am happy to eat the same foods and not go extravagant. We have been working with our good friend and dietitian Amie since forever and having a professional tell you what to eat takes one of the days stresses away. Give me eggs on toast for breakfast and meat and veg for dinner and I am happy.
Physical –
In my 40s my goals are still as wrapped up in vanity and wanting to be the best version of me and such but due to decades of pain, I want to spend most of my time injury free and managing the issue.
For the past couple of years I have taken more of a bodybuilding approach to training so I have my reps up to 20 and the weights are slightly lighter to suit those numbers. I train split days like in my 20s and do a legs/shoulders, chest/tris, back/bis. It is fun to train this way, you can see the results and not bogged down on hitting your percentages for your week like when Olympic weightlifting. You cant beat what our forefathers taught us.
My cardio (yes I am willingly doing some cardio) is half hour to an hour of something that I feel like doing while listening to a podcast. Less body fat is good, hopefully my cardiovascular system appreciates it and when you have something good to listen to then its almost therapeutic.
What this training style has allowed is more muscle but less joint issues. Less time off training so potentially more training sessions in a week as my body has recovered and better results overall.
There is no right answer to the best training style, I have subscribed to many, but my take away is just doing something, consistently will get you results. This style for me has me
My books are open again, I have after lunch to evening spots available and some early morning times too. I will work with you to find a time so just contact me.
I have a quiet studio for private sessions. It’s a purpose built gym but away for others so you can train without others in your space.
Bring your partner or friend and share the cost. I have plenty of couples young and old who train together and as I always say I couple that trains together, stays together. Also you share to cost so that’s a win.
I am laid back, I have been doing this for 20 odd years and love working with all ages and abilities.
